PLATFORM
I was raised in a family where I was encouraged to take action and be part of the solution. My father was active in local and state democratic politics and my mother worked both in the State House for Governor Herter, and later in the US Capitol for the Eisenhower Administration. Both my parents led by example. My youngest sister Terri has Down Syndrome. When she was born, there were few or no resources providing education and support for children with special needs. Instead of accepting that fact, my mother led others in the community to form the “Peabody Parent’s of Children with Special Needs.” Their leadership and determination to help others in the community allowed for policy change that created tangible benefits for all students. That attitude and drive is what I, as Governor's Councillor, bring with me when tackling the issues facing our district.
I want to continue stepping up and being a leader for my district. I believe that there is a lot more right with our State than is wrong with it. So let's work together for more progress.
With your vote, I want to continue being part of the solution.
“ENSURING THE INTEGRITY OF OUR JUDICIAL SYSTEM THROUGH PRUDENT AND DELIBERATE EXAMINATION OF GUBERNATORIAL JUDICIAL NOMINATIONS.
”
ACCOUNTABILTY
Accountability of both the Governor’s Council, as well as the appointed justices.
Let’s keep the 6th and 7th amendments vibrant and make sure we use common sense in vetting our judges. Judicial appointments should be neither a rubber stamp by the Governor’s Council, nor should the individuals be unfairly scrutinized. I’d like to help insure a balance.
CIVILITY AND FAIR-MINDEDNESS
Civility and Fair-mindedness Hearings should be a place to learn about potential justices, not a time for political embarrassment and humiliation. I would work to restore an atmosphere of dignity and respect.
TRANsparency
Transparency I believe it is in the public’s best interest to know who has applied for various Judicial appointments, not just the final candidate.
COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK
Communication and teamwork is what is needed for the Judicial system to function properly. Our regional representatives in law enforcement support the need to fill court vacancies with competent and qualified candidates that reflect the communities we serve.
I will work to insure that the Governor’s administration understands the needs of the area, and also understands that people of the 5th District have the talent and ability to fill vacancies from within our own communities.
